Desert Union – research material

Desert Union – research materialBroken Hill, New South Wales, Australia May 2011

The Living Desert Park outside Broken Hill with wire fence to keep Kangaroos and Emus out of the park

Road going through a dried up creek, these creeks spend most of the time dry so the road goes down into them rather than building a bridge, as they can be prone violent flash flooding after rain fall which would damage the bridge

Viewing-point seat in the Living Desert Park, the roof is to provide shelter from the sun

The same seats used as viewing points in the desert are used as bus-stops in the town of Broken Hill

Signage in the Living Desert Park, this one is about Emus and Kangaroos, announcing points of interest and information about desert fauna

Foot-path in Broken Hill featuring many of the local plants, most of the town is built using corrugated iron because all building materials have to be transported into the town, corrugated iron is light and rusts slowly in the dry desert

The boundary between the town and the desert is marked by a corrugated iron wall, a dirt road and a wire fence
